Knit in proves a success for North Devon Hospice

The campaign was set up to raise funds through sponsorship and get people knitting during a 2-hour sponsored knit across North Devon, then all the knitted patches are stitched together to make blankets.  Last years sponsored campaign raised over £15,000 for the North Devon Hospice. Battle of Torrington 1646 commemorative march marks anniversary.

Photo by South West press and PR photographer Guy Harrop 13/02/10. Cavaliers lead a commemorative march of the Battle of Torrington 1646 through Torrington, Devon at the weekend. The original battle in 1646 was the last major battle of the first English Civil war involving approximately 17,000 men; it is also significant in that it was fought at night and within the streets of the town itself. At the end of the battle the church, which the Royalists had used as a powder store, exploded; the church was destroyed along with much of the town. 

National Trust goes green

Traditional green hand painted chocolate Father Christmas figures get checked by a swiss chocolatier at Melchior Chocolates, Devon. Sales of the traditional green santas have been in huge demand this Christmas as the festive period takes hold across the UK. 3 Year old Pedro the hairy armadillo gets in the festive spirit of christmas unwrapping a present at Exmoor Zoo, Devon. Hand reared Pedro who is 2 years old and fully grown weighing 4 kg,is one of only 3 hairy armadillos residing in the uk. The species normally native to South America are omnivores but have been called 'grave robbers' due to their burrowing and ability to eat everything sometimes even corpses and dead cattle.
