5 International awards for Devon PR photographer Guy Harrop

Devon PR photographer Guy Harrop is celebrating after winning 5 photographic awards in the International Loup Awards 2012.  Guy’s images which were all shot in the South West won 5 bronzes in the People and Portrait, Illustrative and Photojournalism categories.

The competition is an annual competition which attracts international photographers from across the world. “ I have been extremely lucky this year with international photography awards and this latest competition takes my results to 6 so far this year. I think entering and actually winning keeps you quite grounded, and to be recognised on an international level for my work is so rewarding as a professional photographer. The fact that all the images I entered this year were shot in the Westcountry is great as this just shows that you don’t have to travel to exotic locations to win in International photographic competitions.”

Guy, who specializes in corporate PR, portraiture and reportage, regularly has his work published in newspapers and magazines across the world. “ 2013 should be a great year as I will be launching a wedding photography arm to the business after being inundated with requests from clients and brides-to-be across the Westcountry”, said Guy.

Rare baby chameleons take their first steps, UK

Two delicate baby three horned chameleons make their first steps balanced on cocktail sticks at Exmoor Zoo, Devon. At about 3 centimetres long the baby Johnston’s chameleons spent 16 long weeks developing from an embryo and have just emerged from their leather like egg shell. The curator Danny Reynolds at Exmoor zoo said “two things make these babies just that bit extra special. They are probably the first of this species ever born in captivity within UK zoo’s and the fact that their parents had been rescued from an illegal shipment on-route to the Czech Republic. The Johnston’s chameleon only occurs in the Western branch of the African Rift valley – the Albertine Rift and is extremely rare in captivity”.
 The shipment was seized by customs officers at Belgium and was due to be destroyed before the intervention of Specialist Wildlife Services in the UK working in conjunction with our UK Customs officials in May of this year.  The illegal shipment of 59 chameleons was placed within UK BIAZA** zoos by the Specialist Wildlife Services.  Several other zoos have had eggs laid but Exmoor Zoo is the first to hatch any.  Photo by west country PR photographer Guy Harrop

The end of the holidays leaves French seaside resort looking derelict

In summer the south of France can be very busy. Traffic queues, one way streets and the laid back atmosphere can often gridlock small seaside towns. But in winter, all the tourists have gone, the summer homes are boarded up leaving coastal ghost towns. Gruissan is one of those places. The houses feel abandoned, the town seems empty and rows and rows of holiday homes are left to face the winter elements. Gruissan is a seaside resort and a village in the urban area of Narbonne. High tides breach Lynmouth, Devon UK causing flooding

 PIC BY GUY HARROP 18/10/12. Waves crash into Lynmouth harbour, Devon which was partially flooded due to unusually high tides, UK. The seaside village made International news in August 1952 when 34 people lost their lives in the Lynmouth flood disaster.

Cute puppy, Bubbles the orphan gets his first ball, Devon, UK.

Bubbles, a King Charles spaniel puppy plays with his first ball after being rescued in Devon, UK. Bubbles, who is 3 weeks old survived, from a litter of 4, his 3 siblings were stillborn and his mother died 2 hrs after the birth. The puppy was handed in to a vets and is now been cared for by North Devon Animal Ambulance driver Diana Lewis who takes him out on her daily rounds. Bubbles is being hand reared and regularly fed whole goats milk through a small bottle. He playfully rolled a tennis ball around in between sleeps and feeds. Artist Damien Hirst's giant pregnant female sculpture arrives in Ilfracombe, Devon

A giant 65ft sculpture of a pregnant woman cast in bronze by artist Damien Hirst has finally arrived in Ilfracombe, Devon. The work, called 'Verity' weighs over 25 tonnes and depicts a pregnant naked woman holding a sword and bearing the scales of justice. Giant 'Verity' was made in over 40 individual castings pieced together and has undergone testing to ensure it was capable of withstanding the extreme force of high winds and sea spray. The piece of art will be installed at the front of Ilfracombe pier, where she will stand while on loan to North Devon Council for a period of 20 years.

Devon and Cornwall food photographer's passion builds up an appetite

Devon and Cornwall food photographer Guy Harrop has built up an appetite editing recent shoots for top wedding and restaurant venues across the Westcountry UK. Luxury house interior photography proves more popular across the Westcountry

This year Guy Harrop has been photographing lots of house interiors for clients keen on keeping their holiday accommodation portfolios up to date across the Westcountry. "The holiday letting business seems more competitive this year than ever. I think in the current financial climate, more people are diversifying into property lets and the more attractive the property looks the better the enquiries", said Guy.

Shooting a triathlon book in 2 days keeps the photographer's eye on the action.

Recently Westcountry photographer Guy Harrop has been shooting the latest Haynes triathlon manual with several of the world's best triathletes and sports models across locations in and around the South West UK. During his photographic career Guy has covered most sports including International rugby, football, basketball, surfing, hockey, running, climbing and he has also travelled around the world photographing kite surfing.

This time round the photo shoot was in the UK. Here were a few of the scenarios - bad weather, good weather, pool steamed up lenses, salt water, waves, wind and sand. 

Guy, was drenched several times during the photo shoots, had his kit covered in sand and salt water twice and with a couple of thousand images under his belt in under 2 days - couldn't be happier...well, apart from the editing.........
