Nordmann fir tree shortage hits UK festive season as stocks sell out

For last minute shoppers Christmas 2009 may prove to be treeless as producers and importers of Nordmann firs are reporting dwindling numbers, selling out in the build up to Christmas. Imports of Nordmann Firs from Denmark have fallen sharply, normally some 2.5m Nordmann Firs are imported annually from Denmark, but this has fallen to just half a million this year due to the weakness of the pound. The new Royal Marines Fitness physical training manual is just out which was photographed by International award winning press and PR photographer Guy Harrop. The assignment was shot over a few days with various backdrops, props and lighting - following a brief and tight deadlines. Guy, who has over 20 years photographic experience regularly shoots commissioned images across the world and having worked on several bestselling books, this project with the Royal Marines enabled Guy to use his skills in getting the images right first hand within the scheduled timeframe. The fayre which is always held on the last Thursday in October was granted a Royal Charter in 1258 by King Henry III and is one of the oldest Charter Fayres in the country. Westcountry PR Photographer Guy Harrop has scooped a silver award in the Press and PR category of the annual British Institute Of Professional Photography National photographic awards. Guy’s image of ripening gruyère cheese wheels shot high in the Swiss Alps caught the judges eye earlier in the month when he was shortlisted for this National accolade.

“ This is great news as I have never really entered or won anything before, but to know my work is at a National award winning standard is fantastic. My work takes me all over the world and I am fortunate in that I just enjoy my job and its diversity. A day can be so challenging but equally rewarding and winning a silver award in a National competition makes it all worthwhile.”

The evening was packed with song, talks and food tasting surrounding Guy's exhibition in the dining room walls. Devon and Cornwall food photographer Guy Harrop's work is on display there for 6 weeks.
