Flaming torch leper march lights up Torrington's historic past

Townsfolk take part in a  Leper festival in Taddiport, Torrington, Devon at the weekend. The bizarre annual festival is believed to be the only one of its kind in the world where local residents don peasant clothes and leper spots marching through the town under torchlight to an old chapel which used to be a Leper hospital in the 14th century. In its 9th year the event  organised by artist Shan Millar raises money for the international Lepra charity. Torrington famous for its civil war battles used to have a leper colony there 700 years ago and today strips of fields where the lepers used to work are still visible.
